Grupo Cajolá is creating a library! It shouldn’t be surprising that a town where illiteracy exceeds 50% that few people have developed the habit (or love) of reading. We are trying to remedy that! Actually all the children that have been in the preschool or the Learning Center have taken to reading quite enthusiastically. In order to keep up with their appetites, we decided we need a library. We were granted money to purchase some books by the American Association of Women for International Understanding, La Peña in the Bronx has donated lots of books, and book purchases are part of our annual budgeting process. Where will we keep those books? They are housed on shelves in someone’s home right now, while the books borrowed by the preschool and Learning Center stay on their shelves while they are on loan. But now we have a new space, ready and waiting for the books. Stay tuned.
